Rocker Arm Multi-Bag Filter Housing refers to a specific type of industrial liquid filtration vessel designed for high-flow applications. The term "Rocker Arm" defines the mechanism used to seal the lid and secure multiple filter bags inside the housing.
A multi-bag filter housing is a pressure vessel that holds multiple filter bags (typically 3 to 24 bags) in parallel. This allows for high flow rates and large solids-holding capacity within a single unit, eliminating the need for multiple single-bag housings. They are widely used in water treatment, chemicals, petrochemicals, food & beverage, and paints/coatings.
Speed of Operation: Opening and closing is much faster than tightening 6–12 individual swing bolts, drastically reducing downtime during bag change-outs.
Consistent Sealing: A single-point tightening mechanism provides uniform pressure, minimizing the risk of uneven gasket compression and bypass.
Operator Safety: Reduces repetitive manual handling of heavy nuts and bolts, and often eliminates the need for tools.
Cost-Effective: For housings designed with a rocker arm, the reduced labor time translates directly into lower operational costs.
Bag Installation: The lid is opened (often using a davit/hoist due to the weight). Filter bags are dropped into the housing, and their sealing collars sit on a divider plate (bag basket plate).
Lid Placement: The lid is lowered onto the vessel. Some designs use a separate hold-down plate that presses on all bag collars; in other designs, the rocker arm directly compresses the bags via a central distributor.
Tightening the Rocker Arm: The operator tightens the central handwheel. The rocker arm tilts slightly, pulling the lid down or pressing a central spider plate against the bag collars, creating a tight seal between the dirty and clean sides of the filter.
Filtration: Dirty liquid enters the housing, flows from the inside to the outside of the bags, and exits through the outlet. Solids are trapped inside the bags.
In this context, the "rocker arm" is a mechanical advantage system that serves two primary purposes:
Lid Closure: It replaces multiple individual swing bolts with a single central clamping mechanism.
Sealing & Security: It applies uniform downward pressure on the lid to seal the vessel and simultaneously secures the filter bags in place to prevent bypass.
The mechanism typically consists of a central threaded post, a yoke bar (the rocker arm) that spans across the lid, and a handwheel or nut. Tightening the central nut pivots the rocker arm, evenly distributing clamping force around the lid’s perimeter.
This design is preferred wherever frequent bag changes are required or where large multi-bag systems are used:
Water/Wastewater Treatment: Pre-filtration for reverse osmosis, clarifying process water.
Chemical Processing: Filtration of bulk chemicals, resins, and solvents.
Food & Beverage: Clarification of edible oils, beer, wine, and bottled water.
Metal Finishing: Filtration of plating solutions and rinse waters.
Paints & Inks: Removing oversize particles and agglomerates.
