Key Properties

1. Smooth Surface: Because it is made from a single filament, the surface is smooth and uniform. This allows for excellent "cake release" (the solid material being filtered releases easily from the mesh) and makes the cloth easy to clean.

2. High Abrasion Resistance: Nylon is renowned for its toughness. It has superior abrasion resistance compared to polyester or polypropylene. This makes it ideal for applications where the filter cloth will be subjected to significant mechanical wear or vibration.

3. High Tensile Strength: It is very strong and can withstand high pressures on filter presses or rotary vacuum filters.

4. Excellent Flexibility and Resilience: Nylon has good "memory." It can withstand repeated flexing without permanently deforming or creasing.

5. Moisture Absorption: Nylon absorbs more water than polyester. This can sometimes cause the mesh to swell slightly in wet applications, which can affect the pore size (micron rating).

6. Chemical Compatibility:

   • Good: Resists alkalis, oils, greases, and most solvents.

   • Poor: It is degraded by strong acids and some bleaching agents. It is generally not suitable for applications with a low pH.
